11-21-2002, 7:42pm - This is cool. I just found out about it. Falcom (the guys who made the Ys series) has an entire Final Fantasy Tactics like RPG available for download from their site. I just downloaded the game... and it looks really promising. Thought I'd pass the link on to you guys.

11-21-2002, 6:22pm - I've added a preview build of Legend of GrimTold for anyone who wishes to check it out. It's not a 'playable demo', just a 'tech demo'. You can however, walk around the maps, and fight battles, as well as play with the in-game menus. To get your copy, head on over to the projects page.

lighting... ooooh.

That is the latest screenshot of the Dark Crown remake. As you can see, it's coming along rather nicely. This time around, I've used a few PSP filters to create some neat effects for the battle screens. As you can see in this one, I've used some extra lighting effects. It looks really nice in the game, and makes the background come to life... plus, it looks like it almost 'illuminates' the enemy and the character.

One thing you might be surprised with, is the fact that I'm not using any page flipping in this game. None. At all, heh. This is a conscious decision. I'm making this game to be an 'homage' to the QBasic original from 1997... and one thing I want to be able to do, is have the soundless source code only version run in QBasic 1.1, which means I'll have to be careful about memory usage, and I can't use any external libraries. I don't mind though. I'm having lots of fun doing it the 'true old school' way.

There will basically be two versions of the game, although the differences will be slim. The first, will be a QBasic 1.1 playable version, just like the original demo, only it will be a complete game. The second, will be much the same, but I will add music and sound effects to it... and indeed, I may add page flipping as well. The page flipping is really a non-issue though, as flicker is pretty much non-existent, even on a P166 machine.

Oh yes, some of you may have noticed that the Darkness Ethereal site is down. I'm aware of this, and it is only temporary. We should be back up soon, although you will no longer be able to use the old IP address to reach the site. I suggest everyone put welcome.to/DarknessEthereal in their bookmarks and links... as, when the site goes live again, I will link the virtual URL to the new one. I realize it's one extra step to get to the site this way, but the V3 redirect will always be the same, and it will always point to where the site is. It's basically much more reliable... and well, that's it for this update. Pretty long, no? Don't forget to download the LoGT build, play with it, and tell me what you think!

11-07-2002, 3:55am - Update... stuff... blah.

That's pretty much it then. I just haven't had the desire to bother with websites recently. Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I even keep a site... probably just so I have somewhere to lay down my thoughts, and share them, should I so choose. Oh yeah, and there's the RPGs, too, I guess. ;)

Anyway, I've tossed in three new screens of Dark Crown. The game is coming along nicely, and since it's a mini RPG, it should be out before Legend of Grimtold is done. Speaking of which, I promised to toss a build of the game up here, and yes, I will do that... but not right now. I don't feel much like digging through all of the files, compiling, and getting it ready, heh. Anyway, it'll be up in a few days. I'd say tommorrow, but then it would never come up tommorrow, 'cause something would prevent me from updating. I guess that's the way it is.
